Terms of use
Short version: FeeWarden gives planning estimates from public data. They can be wrong. Do not rely on them alone for a decision that costs real money, and do not treat them as a filing or a ruling by the city.
Last updated 2026-10-21. By using this site you agree to these terms.
Estimates, not advice
- Every figure is a planning estimate. It is not legal, engineering, accounting or compliance advice, and it is not a determination by the NYC Department of Buildings.
- The department decides what a building owes, which compliance pathway applies and which adjustments are granted.
- An annual Local Law 97 report is a filing, and it needs a licensed engineer or architect. Nothing here replaces that, and nothing here is a certified filing.
Where the numbers can go wrong
- Energy use and floor area come from filings owners make themselves. Those can contain mistakes.
- The rules, limits and emissions factors can change. We read them from the city’s published rules, and our method page lists every input, assumption and thing we leave out.
- Some figures rest on our own reading of the rules, such as the conversion of renewable energy credits to tons. The method page says which.
- Estimates for the later period assume energy use stays the same, so they are projections.
No warranty and limits on responsibility
The site and its estimates are provided as they are, without promises that they are accurate, complete or current. To the extent the law allows, FeeWarden and the people behind it are not responsible for losses that come from using or relying on the site, including decisions about spending, filings, sales, leases or financing.
Paid services
If you order a compliance report, a portfolio review or another paid service, we confirm the scope and price with you by email before any payment. Those details apply to that service and add to these terms. A paid report is still a planning document, not a certified filing.
Contractor quotes
If you ask for quotes, we pass the details you enter, including the building and its estimate, to up to three energy contractors, and only after you tick the consent box. Contractors are independent businesses. We do not do the work and we do not guarantee their prices, advice or work.
Your information
The forms ask for your name, email and role. We use them to answer your request. We share them only in the way the form you submit describes.
Using the site
You may use the pages for your own information. Please do not copy the site wholesale, overload it with automated requests or present our estimates as if the city produced them. The underlying filings are public records, and the figures we derive from them are provided under these terms.
Report an error
If a figure looks wrong, write to [email protected] with the building address and what looks off. The cause is often the energy filing or the property type, and we check each report. Every building page also has a link for this.
